What to Wear to a Boudoir Photoshoot: The Complete Guide
Staring at your closet wondering what to pack for your boudoir session? You're not alone. "What should I wear?" is the #1 question we hear at The Goddess Experience — and the answer might surprise you.
You Don't Need to Buy a Single Thing
Here's what most boudoir blogs won't tell you: you probably already own pieces that will photograph beautifully. And if you don't? Our studio has you covered — literally. At The Goddess Experience in Winston-Salem, every session includes access to our full couture wardrobe featuring gowns, silk robes, angel wings, bodysuits, and lingerie in sizes XS through 4X.
But let's talk about what works, what doesn't, and how to plan outfits that make you feel like the goddess you already are.
How Many Outfits Should I Bring?
We recommend planning 2–3 looks for your session. Most clients do one lingerie or bodysuit look, one "soft and romantic" option (like a robe or silk slip), and one that's personal — a partner's button-down, a favorite oversized sweater, or something meaningful.
You're welcome to bring more options. Having extras means we can swap if something doesn't photograph the way you expected. Better to have choices than to wish you'd packed one more thing.
A matching bra and panty set is always a winner. Look for pieces with lace detailing, interesting textures, or a bold color. Black is timeless, but don't sleep on deep jewel tones like burgundy, emerald, or navy — they photograph beautifully against our studio sets.
Pro tip: High-waisted bottoms are universally flattering. They create a gorgeous silhouette and elongate your legs
Bodysuits
If we had to pick one single item that looks incredible on every body type, it's the bodysuit. Lace, mesh, or structured — bodysuits smooth your silhouette and create beautiful lines that photograph like a dream. They're our team's #1 recommendation for clients who want to feel sexy but still covered.
Silk Robes & Kimonos
There's something effortlessly sensual about a flowing robe that's barely staying on your shoulders. Silk and satin robes add movement to your images and create that "just woke up gorgeous" energy. We have several in our studio wardrobe if you don't own one.
Your Partner's Shirt
An oversized button-down — unbuttoned, hanging off one shoulder — is one of the most intimate and romantic looks in boudoir photography. It's personal, it's effortless, and it tells a story. Pair it with bare legs and a pair of heels for a look that's both casual and captivating.
Couture Gowns & Wings
This is where The Goddess Experience gets its name. Our studio wardrobe includes dramatic couture pieces — flowing gowns, angel wings, and statement accessories that transform your session into editorial art. These are the images that make clients gasp during their same-day reveal.
Everyday Pieces That Surprise You
Some of our most stunning images come from unexpected wardrobe choices: a favorite pair of jeans with a lace bralette, a cozy cardigan slipping off the shoulder, or even just a white bed sheet artfully draped. Boudoir doesn't have to mean lingerie. It means whatever makes YOU feel powerful.
What to Avoid:
Brand-new underwire bras worn for the first time: They can leave red marks on your skin. If you're wearing something with underwire, put it on at least an hour before your session so any marks have time to fade.
Busy patterns and logos: Solid colors photograph cleaner and keep the focus on you. Skip the plaid boxers and graphic tees.
Anything that doesn't fit right: Too-tight pieces dig into your skin and create lines. Too-loose pieces look sloppy. Your boudoir wardrobe should fit your body as it is right now — beautifully.
Tags: Remove all tags before your session. Nothing kills a sultry vibe faster than a price tag sticking out.
Accessories That Elevate Everything
The little details make a big difference:
Heels: Even if you never wear them, heels change your posture, elongate your legs, and add instant confidence. Bring 1–2 pairs.
Jewelry: A delicate necklace, statement earrings, or your wedding ring can add a personal touch. Less is usually more.
Thigh-highs & garter belts: These add texture and visual interest to any look. We keep several pairs in the studio.
Your favorite lipstick: Our glam team handles your full makeup, but if you have a signature shade, bring it.
What About Sizing? I'm Not a Size 2.
We photograph women in sizes XS through 4X every single week. Our wardrobe is stocked for real bodies — not runway models. Every piece in our collection is chosen because it looks incredible on real women with real curves, real bellies, and real stories.
If you're worried about what will look good on your body, that's exactly what our pre-session consultation is for. We'll plan your wardrobe together, talk through what makes you feel confident, and make sure every piece is perfect before your session day.
Still Not Sure? We've Got You.
The best part about booking with The Goddess Experience is that you're never figuring this out alone. During your pre-session consultation, we plan every look together. We'll talk about your style, your comfort level, and the vibe you want — and we'll pull pieces from our studio wardrobe that are perfect for you. You don't need to be a fashionista. You don't need to own expensive lingerie. You just need to show up.
